After 6 months use my Breyville is toast!
I have now been waiting 29 minutes to try to get some service help.

After reading various reviews on their service I am ready to chuck
this thing in the garbage. Way too much money, it sounds like a wounded
duck when in convection mode and never seems to be warm enough.
Plan to pester the hell out of their management. Still waiting, now 33 minutes and holding.

I have to rate this oven 5 stars although it died just a week out of warranty. However, customer service at Breville was excellent and they validated the warranty and replaced it. Since I have owned this oven I have hardly ever had to use my main oven for cooking saving a lot of money. I note others have had some problems with the quality control and maybe this could be looked at but the reason I stay with a 5 star rating is the excellent customer service and no quibble replacement by Breville.

I purchased this oven after reading all of the glowing reviews by others here on Amazon. In retrospect, I have to wonder how many of those people were compensated endorsers. I admit to having my suspicions about some of the claims that were being made about how well this oven performed, but I went ahead and spent the premium price on this glorified toaster oven.

First off, anyone who seriously claims that this thing works better than their home oven would have been better served to spend their $250 towards upgrading their home oven instead of purchasing this product, because their home oven obviously is a total piece of junk. Let's start with a simple, undeniable fact: With an oven, size DOES matter. Since the Breville is a toaster oven, you're working with a much smaller chamber size than a large oven. Why is that important? Answer: Heat circulation and proximity to the cooking elements. When you put something like a 12" pizza or 9x13" baking pan in the oven, you're severely restricting the oven's heat circulation. Using pizza as an example, I've found (through repeated testing with and without convection) that the heat rolling around the edges of the pizza significantly browns the outer portion before the cheese in the center is anywhere near done. This is not acceptable and reflects poor heat circulation. This is also not a problem with my home oven, due to its larger chamber size and better circulation. In addition, the crust turns out far, far better in my home oven than on the Breville--so much so that it isn't even close.

What about bread? Other reviewers rave about the bread-making capabilities of the Breville. I have not found this to be the case. Once again, the Breville is limited by the size of its cooking chamber. If you're baking a full-sized loaf of bread, you'll find that the top of the bread is precariously close to the upper heating elements. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what happens next. Before I get accused of overcooking the bread, I should point out that I use a $90 instant-read Thermapen to test the bread's internal temperature to determine if it is done. If the cooking chamber were larger, the bread wouldn't be so close to the cooking elements, and the top of the bread would not get too brown.

This oven is a decent toaster with some rudimentary oven capabilities and nothing more. The electronic controls are clearly done with marketing more in mind rather than useful functionality. (Are functions like the pizza size indicator REALLY necessary other than to set an arbitrary cooking time?) Unlike a conventional oven, it is not insulated, meaning that it wastes energy and gets extremely hot on the outside. As a result, it needs plenty of room around it when in use, and please don't put anything on top of it while baking. Is it a decent toaster with limited baking capabilities? Yes. Was it worth $250? Certainly not, but if you like pretty digital displays and countdown timers with limited cooking value, by all means go for it. It is your money.
