Blitzsafe HON/M-Link1 V.2X Review

Blitzsafe HON/M-Link1 V.2X Review by M. McMahon (Palatine, IL USA)

I did a lot of research on iPod/iPhone adapters for my 2004 Honda S2000 before selecting the BlitzSafe HON/MLINK1 V.2X. I wanted one that was cost effective and still allowed me to use the controls on the dash. The BlitzSafe ended up being the right choice. (Please note that the picture for this specific model on Amazon is incorrect. The decals on the HON/MLINK1 V.2X are not yellow like on Amazon. They are white and orange). Check the BlitzSafe website and you'll see what I mean.

The installation was simple considering the instructions are not that detailed. I simply removed the white (not the blue) 14 pin connector from my stock radio (without navi , XM or CD changer), plugged in the BlitzSafe harness and then plugged in the stock harness I removed from the radio into the female connector on the BlitzSafe harness... and Bingo! Now I can play music from my iPhone 4 and stream audio from apps and radio stations. The sound quality is excellent. CD quality or better. The stock Honda sound system isn't the greatest for starters, but it's good enough for my purposes.
With the radio set to "CDC" (compact disk changer) the BlitzSafe allows me to control the volume from the radio and also the dash controls. Music selections must be made using my iPhone 4.

The installation took me a little over an hour. Most of that time was spent removing and re-installing the radio cover panel. Once the radio was removed from the dash, connecting the BlitzSafe took a few minutes. I tested everything before I stuffed everything back in the dash. Fitting the radio back in the dash with the BlitzSafe tucked in behind it was a bit tricky, but it worked.

Overall, I am very pleased with this purchase. The price was in my range ($81.85 shipped to my house through Amazon.com by Furious Electronics) and it operates as designed.......and...... it's MADE IN THE USA!!!

My only concern is that the dock connector that connects to the iPhone 4 seems to get quite warm while the BlitzSafe is charging it. I'm going to keep an eye on that. My other concern is how well the BlitzSafe will hold up to the temperatures tucked away behind the radio. The S2000 can get quite hot behind the radio because the engine is basically right on the other side of the firewall. Time will tell if the BlitzSafe will hold up to these temps.

I would have given this product 5 stars, but I'm concerned about the heat that is generated at the dock connector. If I have any problems, I'll post an update.

Blitzsafe HON/M-Link1 V.2X Review by Ryan H

I installed this on an 04 Acura TSX, Navi, no XM. After finding out online where in the hell to plug the thing it took no more than 10 minutes to install. The harness fits in my unit a little loosely, which could cause it to shake loose over time, but i jammed it in the pretty well, haven't had a problem been using it for nearly two years. Sound quality is great, it is really a great option that you can DIY. My complaint is that within about two months the plastic at the base of the plug that connects the iPod started to break down, which will eventually cause the unit to stop working. I have to be very careful now to make sure no pressure is put on that spot. I would recommend immediately wrapping that joint tightly with some electrical tape. Otherwise, extremely happy with this purchase.

Blitzsafe HON/M-Link1 V.2X Review by Adam Thomas (Virginia Beach, VA)

I own a 2006 Honda Accord with a factory Navi head unit. The BlitzSafe adapter was fairly easy to install (about 1 hour). When I turned on the car and plugged in my iPod Nano (3rd generation) everything worked perfectly as advertised. The next morning when I started my car for my morning commute the adapter did not work! That afternoon when I started my car everything worked perfectly again.

This same pattern of not working in the morning has continued ever since. I've tried everything from restarting my car multiple times, to unplugging fuses that control the radio. The interface only works periodically and is extremely frustrating. I contacted BlitzSafe 2 separate times and spoke with their customer service department. They blamed Honda factory head units for the issue and basically said that they could send me a new adapter. I contacted Honda and determined that there was no recall or documented issues with my head unit. BlitzSafe customer support held their position that Honda was to blame and it was a known issue. I asked BlitzSafe why they don't mention the potential for unreliable performance with their device in Honda vehicles on their website. I was greeted with momentary silence and then the customer service representative said they would pass my suggestion along to management for review.

In summary, BlitzSafe knows many Honda vehicles will not work reliably with their adapter, yet they continue to sell these expensive little devices without so much as a warning to unsuspecting consumers like me. BlitzSafe assumes potential customers will read their forums and the many posts on there regarding their interface not working on certain Honda vehicles. The BlitzSafe adapter would be great if it worked consistently, but it will not! As a final warning, I continually had this feeling that BlitzSafe is a small and unestablished company. What I mean by that is that each time I spoke with the customer service department they continually boasted about their patent(s) and their years of experience in the industry, yet when I asked about the company size they declined to answer. I had this constant gut feeling that this was a very small and somewhat unprofessional outfit trying to make it in the world of engineering and electronics. Buyer beware and seriously consider avoiding this product and this company!
